Request to Defer course commencement

If you receive an offer to study at UOW but cannot start straight away, you may request to defer or delay starting your degree for up to 12 months.

If you are enrolled in your first session and now wish to defer, you must ensure that you withdraw from your subjects via SOLS before submitting your deferral request. Failure to withdraw may result in financial penalties.

If you have just received a UAC or Early Admission offer to study at UOW you will need your UOW student number before you can complete this request. Your UOW student number will be sent to you via email approximately one week after you receive your offer.

Not all courses can be deferred, particularly those with limited places and high volumes of applications, these include, but are not limited to:

Postgraduate degrees in Psychology, Teaching, Nutrition, and Exercise Science
Doctor of Medicine

If you are seeking a deferral of a Higher Degree Research, or if you wish to be considered for an alternative course or campus, please contact the UOW Future Students team for advice.

Please note: Your application to defer may be reassessed against current admissions assessment criteria and Genuine Student (GS) assessment criteria.

If you do not take up your deferred offer, you will need to submit a new application for admission.

If your request to defer commencement of your studies is successful, you will receive a new Offer of Admission and will be subject to the current tuition fees for your new commencing session. A deferral may also affect any existing student visa you currently hold and eligibility for scholarships and bursaries.
